Discover hidden spaces in kids room

By: admin |

As all parents know, it's amazing how many things are needed for only one child. Toys emerge from almost every spare corner of the apartment or house. That's why, when you decorate a children’s room, the most important thing is to find space for all the things that your child has (and may have in the future). It is almost amazing how much has accumulated in the area when the child accumulate toys, clothes, blankets, diapers, books, hobbies and other vitally important things.

If you have small children, you need a space for clothes, blankets, diapers, changing mat and sundries (often parents also have the basic cosmetics in the nursery). As the child grows, so does the clothing, the toy number is multiplied, as well as the number of books. Older children require more things: more toys, more clothes, more books and more school supplies.

It is extremely important that at each stage of the child's development you find a space in which the important things have their own place and their own space. The child will know where the things are and learn to return things to the same place, and parents will be more peaceful. Here's how to find hidden spaces and organize your child's room.

In the open

Many of the items that the child uses can be placed on shelves, closets, hung on hangers or placed in boxes or on the table. To make the space look neat, keep books in order, toys in boxes or buy hanging bags and hang them from the ceiling or on the wall. Smaller items can be placed in baskets or plastic boxes that you will keep on the shelf or on the table.

 Hidden, but at hand

Things that can’t be neatly stored can be placed on shelves or in drawers. You can store boxes in the closet in which you will keep seasonal clothing or socks. In a similar box you can store toys and keep the boxes in the empty space under the bed. School bags can be kept behind the door, where they are not in the way but they are at all times available. The boxes are a great way to tidy the area. You can either buy decorative boxes and containers.

Organizations in the room

Probably the most useful and practical space to store things in a child's room is the closet. The closet should contain things that a child (or parent) uses every day, such as clothing, books, school supplies and toys. You can place items used less frequently at the bottom of the closet, and those that are used often place forward, where they are easily accessible.

If the cupboards and closets are small or impractical, look for other pieces of furniture that can be used as storage space. You can store toys in decorative boxes, the cradle can be used for storing their doll collection, a chair can serve as an excellent place to store clothes (if you are sure that the clothes won’t pile on it). Shelves are great for organizing things and drawers can hold small items.

Hidden spaces for storage

Find an area outside the bedroom where you will store toys or clothes that the child is outgrown, and that you don’t want to throw away, out of season clothing or your child’s precious artwork. Think about using the basement or attic space, under the stairs, garage ... Store these objects in an airtight box to protect them from moths, moisture or dust.

It might seem that every space in the kids’ room is filled and there is no longer an inch of free space. But a keen eye and a determination help in finding space for anything. Look around yourself - here are a few ideas.

In the closet

The closet space is dedicated to storing things. Basically it's a big box. You do not have to hang a clothes bar in the closet and put things on the shelves. You can arrange the closet so that it suits you best. Take advantage of the best possible space to store everything your child owns. If the child is small, the things that they use place them down to their height. While the child is smaller they will probably not need as much space for hanging things therefor add drawers, shelves and boxes.

High overhead

By adding a shelf about 20 centimeters below the ceiling, on all walls in the room or just on one wall, will offer plenty of space to store things. If you want to put some things out of sight, place colored boxes on the shelves. Carefully check the contents of each box. At the top of the closet, you can put things you do not need that often, like sports equipment or out of season items. You can make them more decorative with stickers or by coloring them.

On the shelves

Bookshelves are not intended only for books. In fact, bookshelves are used to store virtually anything and everything. Make sure that you have enough space to store things, but also that shelf looks nice and place on them stuffed animals, dolls or toy cars. What you want to hide - the clumsy little things - place in a colorful or transparent boxes.

Under the bed

Some kids’ beds have built-in drawers in the lower part, and so offer built-in storage space. If your bed does not have it, you can put a box on wheels under the bed. To keep things away from dust, be sure to get a box with a lid.

Drawers

Drawers are a great place to store things. You can place a few cabinets with drawers in the room - just be careful that they can’t be drawn to the end because of your child’s safety.

Get rid of the excess

And despite all of these tips, you couldn’t find a place for some if your things? Think about throwing away or donating a part of the toys or old clothes. We understand the need to keep the toys and clothing as a memento, most parents keep drawings and similar works of art and / or trophies, but it is only a small part of the things - so rent a nearby storage unit in which you can put away all the things your kid has overgrown or that are not necessary at the moment and all the memories. Some storage companies like Kennards Self Storage allow 24 hours entrance so you’ll be able to reach and take whatever you need at any time.
